Born and educated in Johannesburg, South Africa, Brian Liebenthal came to Los Angeles in the early 90’s to further his studies in music composition and film scoring. Since early childhood, Brian was playing piano, drawing or paging through art books of Rembrandt, Rubens and Caravaggio. After a trip to Europe in 1993, Brian was deeply moved and inspired to paint seriously after seeing the works of contemporary and classical art masters up close. Upon returning to the United States, he immediately immersed himself into an intensive study period that lasted several years. His current work, “The Power and the Glory”, is an exploration of the United States during the 1800’s combining historical images and text with contemporary painting techniques to create a striking visual narrative of people, places and events that shaped our country.
